WW1 Centenary Silhouettes

Dear Men
Our silhouettes of the 11 fallen from Poringland are now in the Village Memorial Gardens. They look impressive and are a fitting tribute to mark the centenary of the end of the Great War.
Well done everyone – you have done the village proud!
Henry

Planters or Hot Tubs?

PDMS were asked to help provide some planters for the Mow & Grow project in Bowthorpe. The finished article seems to resemble a hot tub – a tempting idea this hot Summer!

Cats going up in the world – with the help of PDMS!

Hi John, I hope this email finds you well. I just thought I’d send you some photographs of cats on the ladders.

The ladders are absolutely fantastic, and the cats love them. Since we’ve had the ladders we’ve had three cats in the pens, and all of them have spent most of the day (and night probably) on the top shelf. Cats love being higher up and the ladders are the perfect height for the cats to see what’s going on around them. They are also the perfect size as they don’t take up any space.

So I wanted to thank you and the Men’s Shed for making the ladders – they have made a huge difference to the cats’ lives.

Best wishes to you and all at the Men’s Shed!

Vanessa.

Norfolk Community Foundation Photo Challenge

Poringland Mens Shed is building a carnival float for East Anglian Children’s Hospice who have been invited to take part in The Lord Mayors Parade through Norwich on 7th July. The theme is ‘circus’ and we have made silhouettes of circus performers and are in the process of painting them, plus a wall (in EACH corporate colours) to illustrate the new Children’s Hospice being built nearby our Shed.
Norfolk Community Foundation ( http://www.norfolkfoundation.com ) are running a photo competition on their Facebook page in which we have entered the photo below, showing our Men and Tal from EACH showing off their new found skill set.
Please support us and EACH by visiting the Facebook page and ‘liking’ our photo and help us raise funds should we win the competition, which is decided by public vote.
With many thanks,
Henry Gowman

Volunteers Week

Four members of the Shed attended a volunteers day at The School House Hub to promote the Shed and Network with other voluntary groups and also Henry and Les are representing us at South Norfolk Community Awards on June 7th as we have been shortlisted for an award.

Post evening note:

Dear all,
Les and I attended the awards ceremony last evening. We didn’t win but we were in splendid company and it is an accolade for PDMS to be shortlisted and for the success of the group to be recognised in this way.

HELP WAITROSE HELP SHEDS

This summer, the UK Men’s Sheds Association is one of three good causes to benefit from the Waitrose online Community Matters awards scheme. During June, July and August, online shoppers will be invited to vote for one of three national charities at the checkout, and we’re hoping it will be UKMSA! A £25,000 donation will be shared between the charities in proportion to votes cast over the 3 months. You can help support Men’s Sheds, by shopping online at Waitrose and voting for UKMSA. Please encourage, friends, family and neighbours to do so as well, and talk to your nearest Waitrose store about local publicity. If you use social media or contribute to a newsletter, we’d be grateful if you could share this short piece: Waitrose online shoppers invited to support Men’s Sheds When faced by life-changing experiences – retirement, unemployment, bereavement – men can feel disconnected and disoriented, particularly when their identify has been tied up with their working lives. Men’s Sheds are communal workspaces bringing older men together to stay healthier and happier for longer through making, mending and learning. The UK Men’s Sheds Association (UKMSA) exists to inspire and support the development of Men’s Sheds. As a membership organisation, we represent the interests of more than 500 Men’s Sheds and over 10,000 Shedders. Our mission is to enable access to a Shed for every man that wants it. If you shop online with Waitrose in June, July or August, please vote for UKMSA for a share of a national £25,000 donation to help match men with Sheds. For further details go to http://www.waitrose.com/home/inspiration/community_matters/ community_matters_results.html

Rockin’ Horse Gallops Away!

Further to our story (see below) the rockin’ horse was sold by EACH this month. Sally Rix, the store manager who sold the horse writes…….

Wanted to say a big thank you for the donation of the rocking horse. I sold it today for £300 after reducing my original price. I had various grandparents who wanted to but it for their grandchildren but unfortunately the parents didn’t have the space!
By a strange coincidence Keith came in shortly afterwards so I was able to thank him and chat about his skill.

Doorstops keep cabins cooler!

PDMS came to the rescue with some doorstops for a nearby office. A note of thanks was received…….

Dear Mr Banks

I would like to thank you and your colleagues at the ‘Men’s Shed’ for taking the time and effort to produce such a lovely set of door stops. These will come in very handy as we struggle to control the temperature in our little porta cabin.

Please do pass on my thanks to all involved.

With kindest regards
Nichola
