New Shed Project

 Poringland & District Men’s Shed has operated from 3 different temporary Sheds in it’s short history but has always strived to find a permanent home. We have now been offered a wonderful opportunity to build our very own shed in Poringland. Poringland Parish Council have included a site for a Men’s Shed as part of the Community Land project on the Norfolk Homes Ridings estate.

Revised plan November 2019

December 2019

There has been a revision of the original plan. The new plan shows our shed in our preferred “L” shape and an increased plot size. Our plot is adjacent to the allotments.  See above.

January 2019

We now have the first draft proposal from the architect showing what our new Shed might look like. At this stage we should emphasise that this is very much a first draft and therefore subject to change. Having reached this stage in the project we now need to raise the funds! Our target is to raise £200,000 to build the new Shed and we are most grateful to Norfolk Homes who have made a generous donation and offered to bring utilities to our site.

November 2018

On October 31st 2018 The Poringland Parish Council unanimously agreed to offer us a 99 year lease at a peppercorn rate. The relevant extract from the draft minutes can be seen below.

We seem to have had a slight pull in the Community Land Project, however this is because Norfolk Homes have been beavering away on our behalf levelling and importing topsoil onto the site, laying utilities and temporary roadways, and generally preparing for handover to the Parish Council. As soon as this is completed the Council will be handed the land, and will begin the formal planning process. This is a long term project which will also require funding applications, but we aim to deliver the site in phases.

The Community Land Project (development of the land behind The Ridings) is moving forward well, with the Council appointing a lead consultant to take us through the planning permission stages. We are currently transferring the legal ownership of the land from Norfolk Homes to the Parish Council, and we are incredibly grateful to Norfolk Homes for their kindness and generosity in gifting this land to the parish, together with a package of support to get this recreational site off to a flying start.

March 2018

The Parish Council have appointed WDR & RT Taggart as consultants.

January 2018

The Parish Council agree to appoint a consultant.

November 2017

The Parish Council agree to outsource a  consultant to take the Community Land Project through the planning process. This consultant should be in place by Spring 2018.

September 2017

Following a public consultation the Parish Council agree that a Men’s Shed should be included in the Community Land Project.
